Meghan Markle The Modern Day Esther

Is Meghan Markle The Modern Day Esther?

Meghan Markle, an actress, and charity driven beauty is officially the fiance' of Prince Harry, a member of the British royal family. Some may wonder if Markle is the modern day Esther who sheds a positive light on being African American while racial tensions are at an all-time high.

Markle was born in 1981 to, a caucasian dad, Thomas Markle, and, an African American, mother Doria Radlan. Markle's dad, Thomas Markle, is an Emmy Award-winning director, and her mom, Doria Radlan , is a yoga instructor and social worker.

Although Markle is half white and half black, American "white supremacist"  has set the bar pretty high for being white. White Supremacist have developed the idea that "one drop of black blood makes you black." Not far in the distant past, one drop of black blood was the death sentence in America. Sadly, these philosophies still exist today, causing white America to forfeit their share in biracial accomplishments since most biracial people cling to their African American roots under the assumption that "one drop" makes them black.

Markle gives an inside look at growing up in America as a biracial woman. She conveys the difficulties surrounding both her race and her gender. At a very early age, she struggled with having to choose black or white on a survey and school. She also had an issue with a dish-soap commercial that said, "women all over America are fighting with greasy pots and pans."

Markle reveals that having to choose a black or white box felt like choosing one of her parents over the other. In that instance she realized that she didn't have to check either box, so she left it blank. When Markle heard the commercial "women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans," she believed the message implied that only women belong in the kitchen.

Meghan Markle, "a modern-day Esther,"  began to take a stance for both race and gender equality without really recognizing that she was taking such actions. Although the biblical Esther was a Hebrew woman who took a stance against an evil man named Haman, who sought to destroy her people, it parallels the heroism displayed by Markle's stance as it relates to the relevant issues of today.

Markle's stance to leave the racial box unchecked even though her teacher had implied that "she had to check a box," was her deciding for herself to be neither white nor black and to become more than other.

Later, she took a stance on the implied notion that "only women should be washing dishes, therefore, they would be the ones fighting with greasy pots and pans"  by writing letters to powerful leaders, she felt could make a difference.

She first wrote to Hillary Clinton who was the First Lady of The United States at the time. Markle then wrote to a predominate news source, Linda Ellerbee, who was hosting a kids news program. She also wrote to a power-house attorney, Gloria Allred. Finally, she wrote to the soap manufacturer,  who weeks later changed their commercial script from "women all over  America fight with greasy pots and pans," to "people all over America fight with greasy pots and pans."

As a young girl, Markle fought for social change. As an adult, she continued to share her philosophies on making a difference as charity driven humanitarian. Before Markle's engagement to Prince Harry, Markle was very involved with Charity Vision in Rwanda.

There are speculations that her charity work in Rwanda will cease as her focus will shift to issues involving the UK. No backlash should be given to that idea because her role in society has changed, and her free-hearted spirit will have to adjust to that new role and be displayed in a different way. She has a lot to learn and seems to be adjusting well. In fact, most successful people understand when one season ends and a new one begins. Meghan Markle is definitely in a new season of her life.

Yet, to many, Meghan Markle will always be "the modern-day Esther"  as she will stand for what she believes in: human equality and charity toward those in need.

Congrats Meghan Markle on your engagement to Prince Harry!
