According to a recent interview, Dr. Angelou conveyed that teaching young people brought her the greatest joy. Aside from her many professional titles, "‘Dr. Angelou was a national treasure whose life and teachings inspired millions around the world, including countless students, faculty, and staff at Wake Forest, where she served as Reynolds Professor of American Studies since 1982, Wake Forest University’" (Fox News). Dr. Angelou believed that her students should persevere in pursuit of their educational goals, so she was tough on them and pushed them to earn their credentials through commitment and hard work.
